Blue Angels

Congratulations to Sabre Systems of Lexington Park, MD on their new Blue Angels addition to their lobby!

This sculpture is the culmination of all that is possible with my patented mounting system, an outstanding CAD engineer, and a laser cutter.

I live just outside of Patuxent River Naval Air Station and in the summer of 2010 the Blue Angels were there doing a show. They fly right over my house in their routine and this piece was done from one of many pictures taken during their performance and practice.

The sculpture is constructed of a backing made of steel, and an outermost layer of stainless steel. The outermost layer is painted entirely in Blue Angels colors that were acquired from the actual company that sells the Blue Angels their paint. Every piece of every plane that is a different color from the one next to it is a separate piece that has been laser cut out of stainless, painted its respective color, and inlaid into the stainless body(painted blue) of each plane. Every plane, and every piece of every plane, are different, no two are alike. The formation of six planes equals 241 individual and unique pieces.

At the scale in these pictures it is 4 feet tall and 2 feet wide.
